Dear Parents

It is hard to believe that it is Whitsun already and the Year 6 children are reaching the end of their time here in school. However, they have just enjoyed a wonderful week in Ireland and they were a credit to themselves, the school and their families. You will be pleased to hear that we were even stopped by people on the street and on the ferry, to congratulate the children on their good behaviour and polite manners. All the children should feel proud of themselves.

You may well also notice photographs of children in the paper who achieved great success in the Urdd National Cross Country Championship last week. All children who competed ran exceptionally well but special mention to Matthew Jones (1st), Rhys Norrington-Davies (2nd) and Emily Thomas (3rd) in all Wales. Well done!

A huge well done also to the children in Mrs Bethan Davies class who have won first in the Urdd National Cywaith competition. Their Welsh Second Language project will be on display at the Eisteddfod next week and you may well see the children collecting their award on the telvision on Monday.

Congratulations also to the "Book Quiz" children in Years 4, 5 and 6 who won second in Ceredigion Libraries Welsh Books Quiz last month. Well done to both teams!

It is lovely to be able to praise such achievement by the children, however we do have some other information that we need to share with you regarding activities over the coming weeks. As last year the school will be fully involved in the Local Education Authority Trochi project where children will be increasing their use of Welsh over the last half term of the year. In particular Mrs Roberts class and Mrs Bethan Davies class will be increasing the use of Welsh in all lessons and insisting on children to use the Welsh that they have. The project is aimed directly at increasing children's confidence to speak Welsh and to use the Welsh they have already got. Please feel free to speak to the class teachers or Mr Fanning if you have any questions regarding the project.

You will have noticed that the new Reading Books (Thank you PTA) are now in use by all children. We are also going to use this as an opportunity to encourage the children with their reading and become involved in the "Read a Million Words" project. After half term all books that children read including books at home will be recorded to add to the project total of reaching 1,000,000 words, read by the children of Ysgol Comins Coch. You will be pleased to know that this is not a fund raising exercise but aimed at fostering an interest in books and a love of reading by the children. Your support over the coming months will be much appreciated.

You will also notice that the children have entered an Art competition promoting local businesses. Whilst the schools entry will appear in the Cambrian News for which parents are able to vote I am more pleased to say that all the posters prepared by the children are on display in 'Blend' on Terrace Road.

To conclude may I remind all parents that school is closed for half term next week and places for odd days are still available for the Holiday Club. I believe that there are also a few places left for the Holiday Club on the INSET days on the 5th and 6th of July. Please contact After School Club for places.

Yours sincerely,

Tom Fanning
