Dear Parents,
It is difficult to believe we are now into the second half of the school year! It is a very busy time with various activities in the run-up to Easter.
We will be celebrating Dydd Gwyl Dewi (St. David's Day) on Monday 1st March and, as usual, all the children will take part in an assembly. On St. David's Day we encourage children to dress in traditional costume to make the day even more memorable. We will also be having a Welsh tea at 3 o'clock on the day, serving Fair Trade tea and coffee, and cakes made using Fair Trade ingredients. Parents are invited and will be entertained by the junior school pupils. Due to all these activities on Monday, there will be no swimming for Mrs Raw-Rees' class. We will be asking for donations in aid of Haven House, a hospice in Cardiff for terminally ill children.
We are about to begin competing in the local Urdd Eisteddfodau. We thank all the parents for helping to prepare their children for these competitions. The main competitions will take place during the week beginning the 1st March and we warn all parents that the instrumental Eisteddfod will be held here in the school hall on Wednesday 3rd March. Due to the increased traffic at school on this afternoon and evening, we ask all parents to be as punctual as possible so that we can clear the building prior to the arrival of crowds at 3:45pm. There will be no Urdd Club on this evening. Pupils who are competing in the Eisteddfod (except for the dancers and the ymgom) will be expected to wear school uniform on stage.
As I'm sure you are aware 'World Book Day' is on Thursday 4th March. To celebrate the occasion, pupils are invited to dress up as their favourite character from a book. Prizes will be given to the best junior and infant costume.
Children will be involved in the Agor Drysau / Opening Doors Theatre Festival between the 16th and 18th March. The table below outlines which activities the children will be attending and the amount of voluntary contribution required.
| Date | Class(es) | Location | Contribution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuesday 16th March (am) | Year 1 & Year 2 Classes | Comins Coch School | No charge |
| Wednesday 17th March (am) | Mrs Davies & Mr Leggett's Classes | "Boy with a Suitcase" at the Arts Centre Theatre | £3 per child |
| Thursday 18th March (am) | Mrs Raw-Rees' Class | "Jack and the Gold Box" at the Arts Centre Studio | £3 per child |
| Thursday 18th March (am) | Mrs Davies & Mr Leggett's Classes | Science Fair at the University Sports Cage | No charge |
Can we ask for your support in checking that parents of all children who will be looking for places in school before September 2010 apply before this Easter.
As always, if you ever have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Yours sincerely,
Velvor Raw-Rees
