Class letter January 2026
Happy New Year. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas break.
This letter provides information about what your child will be learning this term. Along with this letter, you will find an overview of the Spring term curriculum attached, which outlines the learning across the different subjects.
This Spring term there will be an international day and each class will study a country. The country we will be studying is ‘Italy’. All learning across the different subjects will be based on the country ‘Italy’. In our language lessons we will be studying the book ‘Escape from Pompeii’ by Christina Balit. We will be focusing on writing a non-fiction description and a newspaper report. Swimming lessons will begin on Monday and children will need a swimming kit and towel. PE lessons will take place every Tuesday and again we ask that your child has an appropriate PE kit with trainers and football boots. If there is any reason why your child can not participate in a PE lesson, please contact the school. Outdoor learning will take place every Thursday, and children will need to bring in a pair of wellington boots, waterproof trousers and a raincoat or waterproof jacket for these sessions.
Homework will be set most weeks and will build on the work that has been done in class. Along with completing homework, it is expected pupils should be reading every night and we encourage parents to listen to their child read and write comments about their reading in their reading record.
We will continue to hold weekly spelling tests on Wednesday. The words for these tests will be provided in a weekly spelling list and children are expected to learn them before the test.
We also encourage all pupils to practise their times tables regularly so that they can answer quickly and accurately. Pupils can use TTrockstars, where they can practice their times tables. In addition to this here are some websites that have tablet friendly maths and language games; www.ictgames.co.uk, www.topmarks.com https://whiteroseeducation.com/1-minute-maths
If you have any questions please ask.
Kind Regards
