Dear Parents/Carers,

A warm welcome to the new school year! There are lots of exciting activities planned and opportunities for learning during the Autumn Term.

As it is Fairtrade fortnight from the 9th – 20th of September, we will follow this as our first theme of the term. We will then move on to our main theme ‘Fantastic Forces’. If your child has any books on the topic which they’d like to bring in, they are more than welcome to. In our language lessons, we will be studying The Magic Finger (Roald Dahl). We will be using our skills to study poetry, write a fictional recount diary and a persuasive letter during this term.

Here is some general information about our class and classroom routines:

  • The class teachers are Mrs Ruth Morgan and Mrs Siwan Davies (Thursday)
  • Reading books and spelling: Reading files will be sent home daily. We encourage parents to listen to their children read and to discuss what they have read with them to improve their understanding of the text. All pupils have a reading record in which you can note when they have read to you and any comments you would like to make. We will be holding weekly spelling tests on Fridays. The words for these tests will be given to the children every Monday to take home.   High frequency word lists are given once every half term.
  • Times tables: We encourage all pupils to practise their times tables regularly to improve their mathematical fluency. All pupils have free access to TTRockstars, a brilliant resource for consolidating times tables. In addition to this, here are some websites that have tablet friendly maths and language games; www.ictgames.co.uk, www.topmarks.com
  • P.E. kit: P.E will take place on a Monday and Friday.
  • We encourage pupils to bring in some fruit for ‘Amser Tocyn’.  Can we kindly ask that all children bring a coat and a water bottle to school every day.
  • All stationaries will be available in class. If pupils would prefer to bring their own pencil case, we kindly ask for them to bring a small selection of the essential items.  Felt tipped pens, gel pens, crayons and highlighters are not required.
  • After school arrangements: If there are any changes to the usual arrangements for collecting your child after school, please inform staff in the morning so that we are aware of any different circumstances.

Today, children have received a blue contact form.   Can we please ask that all forms are returned and that all contact details are current.  We do appreciate having more than one contact number in the case of an emergency.

Thank you for your co-operation and if you have any questions, please feel free to get in contact.

Many thanks,

Mrs Morgan
